Get it Right Before it Goes Wrong

Running a healthcare practice is no small feat, and amidst the day-to-day demands, it's easy to overlook putting solid policies in place. However, doing so is essential in avoiding complications down the line.
As Asumpta Gallagher, founder of Best Practice, notes: "It has unfortunately been my experience that practices without clear policies find it difficult to handle tricky situations. As a result, these issues often escalate when left unaddressed."
The basics are critical, especially in relation to employment. Ensuring all staff have detailed contracts outlining terms and conditions is just the start. Accompanying this should be an employee handbook, which provides staff with a clear understanding of the practice's policies and procedures, including how challenges will be managed when they arise.
While creating these frameworks may seem less urgent when everything is running smoothly, the absence of well-documented policies can lead to costly, stressful, and time-consuming problems when things start to go wrong. By putting in the right systems early, practices can avoid unnecessary complications and ensure smoother operations in the future.
In short, prevention is better than cure – get it right before it goes wrong.
